Amsterdam, January 10th 2018 – Today, the 15th edition of the HotelloTOP Year Event took place during the Horecava at the RAI Amsterdam. HotelloTOP, the networking platform for alumni of the Dutch Hotel Management Schools, welcomed over 1750 Hotello’s for this annual conference. This year’s theme was ‘To Infinity and Beyond’. Furthermore, as ‘sneak preview’, the first results of the HotelloTOP Happiness Barometer in collaboration with Consumatics were shown.
The congress was guided by moderation duo Esther Boers (HHL’02), GM of the Carlton Ambassador in The Hague, and Frank Lindner, Senior Editor Food Inspiration. Besides that, three Hotello’s shared their story: Mandy Schild (HTH’07, Owner Present Savvy), Bas van der Putten (HMSM’98, Owner Go Lemon) and Peter Verhoeven (HTH’92, Global Director of Partner Services at Booking.com). They presented their story in the TOP Talk format; a presentation of exactly 10 minutes, in which 20 slides are visible for 30 seconds each.
Wenda Linthorst (HHL’08, Owner Consumatics) shared a number of results during the congress of HotelloTOP Happiness Barometer, which was completed by more than 600 Hotello’s. The aim of the survey is to give insights into the happiness level of Hotello’s. For example, Hotello’s rated overall happiness with an average of 8.1. This is 10% higher than the average Dutch person. Hotello’s are also happier than many other professionals. Then Chris Zegers, well-known presenter and adventurer, took the stage and glanced with us into the future. The congress was wrapped up in a playful manner by Harry Glotzbach.
Hotello of the Year Award
The Hotello of the Year Award 2018 was won by Sam Holtus (HTH’11). The other finalists were Gabriella Esselbrugge (HHL’01) & Joris Bijdendijk (HTH’07). He won because of his Happy Tosti concept, where sustainable and healthy sandwiches, yogurts, soups, salads and juices are prepared and served by employees who have a distance to the job market. Besides that, he was really popular during the online campaign. Moreover, this was also apparent during the congress. He won convincingly. Earlier that day, during ‘Future Hotello’, the Talent of the Year Award was presented to a young, promising Hotello. This award was won by Jorn Heikens from Stenden Hotel Management School, who is described by teachers as “Mister Hospitality”. In addition, he organizes his own events, including the Cultural Music Festival. This year he is going abroad to gain hospitality experience there too.
The HotelloTOP Year Event ended with a networking drink. The Recipe ensured a cracking conclusion of the event.
